Indigenous victim of Baghaihat attack

On 19-20 February 2010, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.


Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Atarakchara of Longadu

On 28 July 2005 at mid-night a group of Bangladesh army men from Maini Mukh zone conducted operation at Daine Atarakchara area. In this operation, the Bangladesh army rounded up the houses of following indigenous villagers:

  1. Mr. Dayanidi Chakma, Assistant Organising Secretary of PCJSS Longadu branch;
  2. Mr. Shanti Ranjan Chakma s/o Anadi Kumar Chakma
  3. Mr. Anadi Ranjan Chakma s/o late Goladhan Chakma

The army searched the houses and destroyed valuables. They got nothing illegal in the house. The army arrested following persons from the house of Dayanidi Chakma:

  1. Mr. Dayanidi Chakma s/o late Debendra Chakma, Assistant Organising Secretary of PCJSS Longadu branch;
  2. Mr. Jyotish Jiban Chakma s/o late Laxmi Kumar Chakma of Daine Longadu village
  3. Mr. Anil Kanti Chakma s/o Bira Bara Chakma of Chenginala of Mahalchari upazila.

Among them, Anil Kanti Chakma and Jyotish Jiban Chakma have been staying at Dayanidi Chakma’s house as house tutor and daily labourer respectively. They were handed over to Longadu police station in connection with illegal toll collection along with three receipt books of Unity Club, Kathina Chibar Danotsab (a Buddhist holly day) and Hill District Council (toll collection book). In fact, these receipt books were not found at the house of Dayanidi Chakma while these were also not illegal on the other. At the last, Dayanidi Chakma and Jyotish Jiban Chakma were released, but Anil Kanti Chakma was taken into Rangamati to produce at the court. Anil Kanti Chakma was tortured by the army.
