Santu Larma

Santu Larma former guerilla leader and the Chairman of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti or PCJSS.

Santu Larma says "Bangladesh government is not sincere about the CHT Accord"

On 25 March, Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) President and CHT Regional Council Chairman Jotirindra Bodhipriyo Larma said BNP-Jamaat led four-party alliance government was doing nothing to implement the CHT Accord.

He said, "After coming to power, the BNP led alliance government committed that they would implement the Accord, but we have not seen any sign of sincerity of the government", while talking to the media persons at the rest house of the CHT Regional Council office in Dhaka.

Larma, also said, "We are following the national politics of the country. Rights of the Jumma people will not be established until a democratic, non-communal and progressive government comes to power".

"The back of the indigenous people has been pushed to the wall due to repeated acts of repression on them", he said adding, "Jumma people have no other options but to fight for their right to live like a human being."

Larma said the CHT Accord was signed between the PCJSS and Sheikh Hasina government in 1997 to resolve the problems of the indigenous people. The coalition government has violated all the vital provisions of the CHT Accord, such as land and military issues, he observed.

Larma said as par the provision of the CHT Accord, indigenous persons from the CHT would be made full Minister of the CHT Affairs Ministry and Chairman of the CHT Development Board. But the present Prime Minister has taken over the charge of the Ministry and Mohamed Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, a Muslim settler has been appointed as the Chairman of the CHT Development Board, he said, adding, "All these are clear violations of the Accord."
