Indigenous victim of Baghaihat attack

On 19-20 February 2010, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.


Bengali settlers attack indigenous Chakma people in Rangamati

On 1 August 2004 at 11.00 a.m. a group of Muslim settlers from College Gate of Rangamati municipality attacked indigenous Chakma people at College Gate, TTC, Kalyanpur and Vedvedi areas. A quarrel between one Chakma student named Mr. Tutul Chakma and one Muslim student of Rangamati College was turned into communal tension by the Muslim settlers. Tutul Chakma was smoking at common room of the college and the Muslim student protested against the smoking. At a stage, the Muslim student attacked Tutul Chakma with knife. This clash was falsely propagated among Muslim settlers staying at College Gate area that the indigenous people were beating Muslims. As a result, the Muslim settlers started to indiscriminately attack indigenous by standers with iron rod and sticks. The Muslim settlers attacked indigenous youths who were playing card at Kalyanpur area. In this attack Mr. Mintu Dewan (18) s/o Sunil Kanti Dewan was wounded at his back. At a stage, the indigenous youths counter attacked the Muslim settlers. In this clash, an auto rickshaw driver was seriously wounded. He was sent to Chittagong Medical College hospital. Police and army were deployed for control the situation.
