DGFI and UPDF terrorize the indigenous people of Twichakma in Ramgarh

On 3 August 2002 about 50‑60 well armed members of DGFI and UPDF in military uniform surrounded Twichakma village of Patachara Union under the jurisdiction of Ramgarh in Khagrachari district. They indiscriminately opened fire on the indigenous villagers and robbed their valuables. They rounded up the villagers, asked them to withdraw their support for the PCJSS, forced them to support the UPDF and ordered them to regularly pay toll or subscription to UPDF. When the poor indigenous villagers expressed their inability to pay tax and implicit obedience to UPDF the attackers became very angry. Then the attackers mercilessly beat the helpless villagers, set fire on 15 houses and threatened them with dire consesuences if they disobey UPDF. DGFI and UPDF abducted 7 indigenous people and demanded big ransom for their release.
