Subarna Chakma

On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army attempted to rape an indigenous Buddhist girl in Kutukchari

On 18 September 2000 at 8.30 am a Bangladesh army personnel named Jafar from Hamid Tilla camp under Kutukchari union in Rangamati tried to rape a 13 years old indigenous Chakma girl. The victim was­ Miss Indra Shova Chakma (13) d/o Sura Lal Chakma.

That day she was going to school and waiting for bus at passenger shed of Maquesud Tilla (this name was given by the army by canceling the original indigenous Chakma name). At that time the army personnel suddenly grabbed her from behind. She lied down on the ground and started shouting. At that moment, a motorcycle rider reached there and rescued her. In the meantime, the villagers also rushed there to rescue her. Soon the army personnel escaped from there.
