Ramu Temple

On 29-30 September 2012 Muslim extremists attacked the Buddhist community in Ramu, Ukhia, Teknaf and Cox’s Bazaar municipality area under Cox’s Bazaar district and Patia in Chittagong district. It was in retaliation of a Facebook posting defaming the Quran allegedly by a Facebook user Uttam Barua. In this attack at least a dozen Buddhist temples were destroyed and around 200-250 Buddhist homes were ransacked and robbed. Besides 2 Hindu temples were vandalised in Patia.


Bangladesh police arrest an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Naniarchar

On 29 February 2000, Bangladesh police arrested Mr. Santosh Bikash Khisa s/o Sadhan Kumar Khisa of village Toichakma Mukh, Naniarchar in connection with massacre of Naniarchar. He was the ex‑president of Rajshahi University PCP branch and at present is acting principal of Naniarchar College. He was transferred to Rangamati jail on that day.

It is mentionable that Bangladesh army of Naniarchar zone and the Muslim settlers committed Naniarchar massacre on 17 November 1993. But the police and sertlers filed cases against the innocent indigenous people. The case no. 2/12 of Naniarchar police station dated 17/11/93 and GR no. 13/93. This case would have to be under process for withdrawal according to CHT Accord. On the other hand, during the massacre he was at Rajshahi University.

At present, situation of Naniarchar area is tense after abduction of Samiran Chakma and killing of Jagannath Dey. In order to harass the members of PCJSS and PCP, Bangladesh army accused these 2 organizations of abduction and killing.
