On 22 October 2017, ARSA terrorists (so called Rohingyas) shot 2 indigenous Daingnet men to dead and wounded 2 in an attack in Maungdaw, Rakhine State.

Northern Rakhine State has been reeling from violence since Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) attacked police outposts in August, which intensified Myanmar Army operations, causing more than 600,000 Bengali Muslims to flee to Bangladesh.

Thudatha Naka, abbot of Aung Tha Pyay monastery, told The Irrawaddy over the phone on Monday (23 Oct. 2017) that 4 Daingnet men Maung Ngay Hla, Shwe Thein Maung, Sein Hla Maung and Maung Ngay Tun went hunting for boar in the forest in the Mayu mountain range on Sunday (22 Oct. 2017) evening. They crossed paths with Bengali Muslim militants and were shot. Mr. Maung Ngay Hla and Mr. Shwe Thein Maung managed to escape and are receiving treatment at the Buthidaung General Hospital. However Mr. Sein Hla Maung and Mr. Maung Ngay Tun were killed on the spot.
