On 4, 5 and 6 February 2017, Bangladesh army of Rowangchari zone led by Lt. Colonel Moshiur Rahman terrorized the indigenous Marma Buddhists in Rowangchari, Bandarban district. Bangladesh army terror started following the abduction of Mong Shwe Thui Karbari, village Head of Baghmara Bhitor Para of Rowangchari in Bandarban district. Bangladesh army conducted several search operations, arrested 4 and tortured 10 indigenous Marma Buddhists.

On 3 February 2017 at around 9:00 pm, some unknown elements kidnapped Mong Shwe Thui Karbari. One neighbor named Bathowai Mong Marma of the same village is said to have called him out from house. After walking for a while a 9 member gang of unidentified persons kidnapped him. 4 persons among the abductors were wearing masks.

Instead of taking appropriate measure against Bathowai Mong Marma, On 4 February Bangladesh army arrested Kyawnu Prue Marma and Thoai Ching U Marma. Kyawnu Prue Marma is a member of Noapatng Union and member of PCJSS. Thoai Ching U Marma is the local reporter of the daily Mukta Bani.

On 4 February 2017, Mrs. Khyawei Nu Marma (31) wife of kidnapped victim Mong Shwe Thui Karbari filed a kidnapping case with Bandarban Polce Station against Bathowai Mong Marma (38) and Ubaching Marma (42).

On 5 February 2017 at 9:30 pm, Bangladesh army of Baghmara camp conducted a search operation at Dochari village in Rowangchari. They gathered all the villagers at Dochari Para Government Primary School and severely beat 6 indigenous Marma Buddhists. The army interrogated the villagers on whereabouts of Ubaching Marma. On 5 February 2017, Mong Shwe Thui Karbari set himself free by assaulting the kidnappers and took shelter at Betchara army camp. It is learnt that the kidnappers were unarmed and four in numbers and wore lungi and belong to Marma community. But the army claimed they rescued the Karbari.

On 6 February, Bangladesh army called 10 villagers to the camp. After making them undergo various harassment and undue interrogation, they were released at 12:00 noon. The army meted out torture on indigenous Marma Buddhists though they were not accused or listed in the abduction case.
