Bengali settlers attempt to rape an indigenous Buddhist girl in Maischari

On 13 February 2016, a Muslim settler named Saidur Rahman (22) attempted to rape a teen age Marma girl at Sapru Karbari Para in Mahalchari.

The victim was cooking food at their home alone, with her parent busy working in their paddy field. Saidur Rahman, son of Badsha Mian from Joysen Para, entered their house and attempted to rape her.

The girl fought back and was able to save herself. She then ran to their neighbours and informed them about what had happened to her, and they caught Saidur.

An hour later Muslim settlers accompanied by a contingent of police personnel, rushed there to settle the matter through negotiation. They were followed by a group of army personnel who made sure that Saidur was handed over to the police.
