On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu

On 19 May 1991, Bangladesh army from Karalyachari camp led by Capt. Mamun carried out a raid against the indigenous Buddhist village Sonai in Longadu, Rangamati district. During the raid Bangladesh army subjected innocent Buddhist inhabitants to severe physical tortures and beating for failing to give information about the Shanti Bahini.

The victims are:

  1. Mr. Erei Chandi Chakma (18), son of Mr. Laxmi Chakma
  2. Master Bijay Chakma (12), son of Mr. Amritalal Chakma
  3. Master Buddhajay Chakma (8), son of Mr. Sushil Chakma
  4. Mr. Pathyachan Chakma (35), son of Mr. Ranjanya Chakma
  5. Mr. Laxmi Bilash Chakma (30), son of Mr. Laxmidhan Chakma
  6. Mr. Santosh Bikash Chakma (18), son of Mr. Indramani Chakma
  7. Mr. Bomba Chakma (30), son of Mr. Sonamohan Chakma
  8. Mr. Purnima Ranjan Chakma (26), son of Mr. Sonamohan Chakma
  9. Mr. Baidyanath Chakma (48), son of Mr. Koilash Chandra Chakma
  10. Mr. Chandra Mohan Chakma (43), son of Mr. Koilash Chandra Chakma
