On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Longadu

On 4 April 1991, Bangladesh army of 4 EBR from Longadu Army Zone and Karalyachari army camp led by Major Ruhul Amin launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Dadi Para and Madyachara in Longadu, Rangamati district.

During the operation, Bangladesh army subjected the indigenous people to various kinds of torture. 11 indigenous people were forced to eat earthworm and 1 indigenous person was srtripped naked. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma (32), son of Mr. Gunasen Chakma of Dadi Para, Longadu.
  2. Mr. Sukh Shanti Chakma (35), son of Mr. Sundar Kumar Chakma, address as above. Bangladesh army forced him to eat earth worm at gun point. He is still detained by the army.
  3. Mr. Priyalal Chakma (26), son of Mr. Kitilal Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Dinamohan Chakma (27), son of Mr. Ratrimohan Chakma.
  5. Mr. Debarmani Chakma (30), son of Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  6. Mr. Fezattua Chakma (22), son of Mr. Shekhar Chandra Chakma.
  7. Mr. Kalimoy Chakma (20), son of Mr. Sadhanmani Chakma.
  8. Mr. Rajendra Chakma (40), son of Mr. Sarat Chandra Chakma.
  9. Mr. Toby Kumar Chakma (24), son or Mr. Khularam Chakma. He was stripped naked and severely beaten by Bangladesh army.
  10. Mr. Barpeda Chakma (25), son of Mr. Durgamohan Chakma.
  11. Mr. Verallua Chakma (24), son of Mr. Kitilal Chakma.
  12. Mr. Bijoy Chakma (12), son of Mr. Amritalal Chakma.
  13. Mr. Buddhajay Chakma (8), son of Mr. Sushil Chakma.
