On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers massacred about 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Bablu Chakma the son of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the vessel. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar

On 1 June1989, Bangladesh army of 9 Engineers from Barpul Para Camp led by Subedar Abdullah intentionally and indiscriminately opened fire during road patrol duty in Naniachar, Rangamati district.

Bangladesh army resorted to robbing, rape, beating and tortures of indigenous Buddhist inhabitants. Bangladesh army took indigenous Buddhist inhabitants to Barpul Para Army Camp where they were subjected to inhuman beating and tortures. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Surjya Mani Chakma, 45 yrs, son of late Tatachan Chakma, of Rangei Para, Naniachar. He was severely beaten in his house and Tk. 150.00 was robbed from him by the Subedar.
  2. Mr. Triranjan Chakma, 19 yrs, son of Mr. Surjya Mani Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army personnel.
  3. Miss Nirandha Bala Chakma, 16 yrs, daughter of Mr. Surjya Mani Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.
  4. Mr. Arun Jyoti Chakma, 15 yrs, son of Mr. Buddha Mani Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
  5. Mr. Bettera Chakma, 12 yrs, son of Mr. Nakya Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
  6. Mr. Jiban Chakma, 20 yrs, son of Mr. Prabhat Chandra Chakma (Headman), of Barpul Para, Naniachar. He was catching fish near Barpul Para Camp. He was taken to the camp and was beaten inhumanly with rifle stocks and bamboo sticks.
  7. Mr. Satish Chandra Chakma, 40 yrs, son of Mr. Babra Bahan Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
  8. Mr. Priya Darshi Chakma, 12 yrs, son of Mr. Satish Chandra Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
  9. Mr. Bazeiya Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Babra Bahan Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
  10. Mr. Daya Ranjan Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Barpeda Chakma, address as above. Severely beaten and injured by the army.
