On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers massacred about 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Bablu Chakma the son of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the vessel. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar

On 21 Feb. 1989, Bangladesh army of 31 EBR from Ghagra Zone led by Lt. Col. Anwar Hossain carried out a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist village Jognatali in Naniachar, Rangamati district.

During the operation, innocent indigenous inhabitants were rounded up and were subjected to inhuman beating and tortures. Bangladesh army also resorted to robbing money, cocoanuts and destruction of house hold properties belonging to the Buddhist inhabitants. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Prafulla Kumar Chakma, 52 yrs, son of Mr. Sona Charan Chakma, of Jognatali, Naniachar. BD Army severely beat him and robbed Tk. 500.00 (five hundred taka) from him.
  2. Mr. Birendra Chakma, 48 yrs, son of Mr. Kamalya Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed Tk. 2000.00 (Two thousand Takas) from him.
  3. Mr. Ranga Chula Chakma, 63 yrs, son of Mr. Felaram Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed Tk. 600.00 (six hundred takas) and silver ornaments from him.
  4. Mr. Kala Chikya Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Ugutya Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed Tk. 1200.00 (Twelve hundred takas) from him.
  5. Mr. Krishna Chakma, 46 yrs, son of Mr. Sesh Chandra Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed 2 fowls from him.
  6. Mr. Shyamal Jyoti Chakma, 24 yrs, son of Mr. Jatra Mohan Chakma, address as above.
  7. Mr. Kanak Kumar Chakma, 35 yrs, a teacher, son of Mr. Bimal Chandra Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed his husking machine.
  8. Mr. Sontosh Kumar Chakma, 26 yrs, son of Mr. Jagadish Chandra Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed 3 fowls from him.
  9. Mr. Lalit Mohan Chakma, 50 yrs, son of Mr. Sadhan Kumar Chakma, address as above.
  10. Mr. Biraj Mohan Chakma, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Gautam Mani Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him and robbed 2 fowls from him.
  11. Mr. Bira Mangal Chakma, 33 yrs, son of Mr. Anna Kumar Chakma, address as above. BD Army robbed 30 green cocoanuts from him.
  12. Mr. Bhupati Chakma, 49 yrs, son of Mr. Tadi Chakma, address as above. BD Army robbed 2 fowls from him.
  13. Mr. Lalit Chandra Chakma, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Rupa Charan Chakma, address as above. BD Army robbed a spade from him.
  14. Mr. Chikan Peda Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Bhalukya Chakma, address as above. BD Army broke his trunk and set clothes on fire.
  15. Mr. Fulchan Chakma, 75 yrs, son of late Chaitra Mani Chakma, address as above. BD Army destroyed his house hold properties.
  16. Mr. Kanak Baran Chakma, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Jummaiya Chakma, address as above. BD Army severely beat him at the Buddhist Temple of Jogonatali. When he protested, Bangladesh army personnel entered the Buddhist temple with guns. Two of his teeth were broken when the soldiers hit him with rifle stock.
