On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.

Bengali settlers attack indigenous people in Longadu

On 4 April 1988, Muslim settlers attacked indigenous people when Muslim settlers tried to grab paddy land of the indigenous people at Batya Para in Longadu, Rangamati district.

The indigenous people were cultivating their own lands. Suddenly Muslim settlers attacked them saying loudly that they have come to CHT (Chittagong Hill Tracts) for land. The Muslim settlers attacked indigenous people with knives and machetes. As a result 4 indigenous people were seriously wounded. They had to be taken to Longadu hospital for treatment. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Surya Mohan Chakma (50), son of Mr. Tatya Chakma of Batya Para, Longadu.
  2. Mr. Chandra Mohan Chahma (45), son of Mr. Tatya Chakma, address as above.
  3. Mr. Fuleshwar Chakma (26), son of Mr. Surya Mohan Chakma, address as above.
  4. Mr. Ganju Chakma (24), son of Mr. Surya Mohan Chakma.

Muslim settlers were identified as:

  1. Khalilur Rahman of Batya Para, Longadu.
  2. Khatun Bibi, wife of Khalilur Rahman.
  3. Muhammad Hussain, son of Khalilur Rahman.
  4. Sajera Khatun, daughter of Khalilur Rahman.
  5. Saleha Khatun, daughter of Khalilur Rahman.
  6. Kabir Ahmed of Boalkhali, Chittagong.
