On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.

Bangladesh army rob indigenous people in Longadu

On 13 Feb. 1988, Bangladesh army of 14th East Bengal Regiment from the Zonal Head Quarter at Mainee Mukh launched a military operatin against the indigenous inhabitants of Harikaba and Kattoli Boradam in Longadu, Rangamati district.

During the operation, Bangladesh army robbed properties of the indigenous people and arrested 3 inidgenous persons. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Subha Bhagya Chakma, son of Mr. Joy Kumar Chakma of Harikaba, Longadu. BD army robbed 11 maunds of paddy from him.
  2. Mr. Amulya Chandra Chakma, son of Mr. Kamal Charan Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 7 maunds of paddy him.
  3. Mr. Ambasur Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 5 maunds of paddy from him.
  4. Mr. Aswathama Chakma, son of Mr. Nabira Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 3 maunds of paddy and a boat worth Tk. 1900 from him.
  5. Mr. Pancha Mohan Chakma of Kattoli Boradam, Longadu. BD army robbed 15 pounds of nylon fishing net and 2 trunks from him.
  6. Mr. Mangal Chandra Chakma, son of Mr. Brisha Moni Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 45 pounds of nylon fishing net and 2 radios from him.
  7. Mr. Sasa Bindu Chakma, son of Mr. Tarani Mohan Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 20 kilos of rice from him.
  8. Mr. Sumati Ranjan Chakma, son of Mr. Tarani Mohan Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 4 plates from him.
  9. Mr. Maungrey Chakma, address as above. BD army robbed 2 trunks with clothes from him.

Bangladesh army detained following indigenous people:

  1. Mr. Sashi Nanda Chakma (19), son of Mr. Gurudev Chakma of Harikaba, Longadu. He was detained at Mainee Mukh Army Camp.
  2. Mr. Dat Bhanga Chakma, son of Mr. Bujya Mohajan, address as above. BD army detained him as above.
  3. Mr. Badikka Chakma, son of Mr. Bizu Mani Chakma, Bhaibon Chara, Longadu. BD army detained him as above.
