On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. Bangladesh police fight indigenous people whose land was grabbed by Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar

On 24 July 1987, Bangladesh army of 40 EBR from the army camp at Borpul Para led by Lt. Fazlur Huq and a Captain from the army camp at Naniachar raided the indigenous Buddhist people of Kattal Toli, South Shoileshwari and Sap Mara in Naniachar, Rangamati district.

During the raid, Bangladesh army rounded up indigenous Buddhist inhabitants from their houses and took them to the camp where they were severely beaten and kept under custody. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Jagat Jyoti Chakma (32), son of Mr. Hansa Moni Chakma, of Kattal Toli, Burighat Union. BD army rounded him up from his house at night. BD army severely beat him and then took him to the army camp at Naniachar. At Naniachar camp, BD army subjected him to inhuman torture. He was again shifted to the army camp at Ghagra for further interrogation and torture. Later he was released from Ghagra camp.
  2. Mr. Lohindra Chakma (32), son of Mr. Hirba Dhon Chakma, address as above. He wes rounded up from his house at night. He was mercilessly beaten, arrested and then taken to the army camp at Naniachar where he was subjected to inhuman physical torture.
  3. Mr. Kalachokkua Chakma (18), son of Mr. Suresh Chandra Chakma of Kattal Toli, Burighat Union. He was rounded up from his house at night. He was severely beaten and was taken to the army camp at Ghagra for interrogation and torture.
  4. Mr. Bibhuti Bhusan Chakma (30), son of Mr. Mongol Chakma, of South Shoileshwari, Burighat Union. He was beaten up in his house by the army personnel.
  5. Mr. Jugal Krishna Chakma (55), son of Mr. Sidira Chan Chakma of Sapmara, Maich Chari Mouza, Naniachar Union. He was severely beaten by the army personnel. The soldiers resorted to beating the indigenous inhabitants enmasse and robbed fowls from them. The Buddhist temple was desecrated by the soldiers.
  6. Mr. Khularam Chakma (32), son of Mr. Jugol Krishna Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten by the army personnel.
  7. Mr. Tushtomoni Chakma (45), son of Mr. Raj Mohan Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat him as above.
  8. Mr. Shanti Mohan Chakma (30), son of Mr. Tarikya Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat him as above.
  9. Mrs. Tara Mukhi Chakma (55), wife of Mr. Rajendra Lal Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat her as above.
  10. Mr. Boli Chakma (70), son of late Ranga Chan Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat him as above.
  11. Mr. Fulok Chandra Chakma (33), son of Mr. Tarikya Chandra Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat him as above.
