On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous peope in Kaukhali

On 26 March 1987, a group of 50 Bangladesh army personnel of 40th EBR from the army camp at Champatoli of Ghagra launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Betchari in Kaukhali, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army inhumanly beat and robbed the indigenous people. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Nibaron Chakma (22), son of Mr. Chibokko Chakma of Betchari, Kaukhali. He was severely beaten and was taken to the army camp. BD army robbed his household properties.
  2. Master Sundor Moni Chakma (15), son of Mr. Lakshmi Dhon Chakma, address as above. BD army mercilessly beat him and took him to the army camp.
  3. Mr. Sukromoni Chakma (18), son of Mr. Ranga Chan Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat him.
  4. Miss Sundor Mala Chakma (18), daughter of Mr. Chikana Chakma, address as above. BD army severely beat her.
  5. Mrs. Prava Rani Chakma (22), wife of Mr. Bipuchar Chakma, of Betchari, Kaukhali. BD army serverely beat and robbed her.
  6. Miss Kiron Bala Chakma (14), daughter of Mr. Belit Mohan Chakma, address as above. BD army serverely beat and robbed her.
  7. Mrs. Snehalata Chakma (35), wife of Mr. Lolit Mohan Chakma, address as above. BD army serverely beat and robbed her.
