On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bengali settlers murder 2 indigenous Chakma boys in Barkal

On 21 March 1987, a group of 30 Muslim settlers and 10 VDP (Village Defence Police) personnel murdered 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Parua in Barkal, Rangamati district. Indigenous people were returning home from Horina Bazar.

Muslim settlers and the VDP personnel have adopted a new policy of secret murders. The incident which occured on weekly market day.

It is necessary for the indigenous people to get their essential commodities from the market on market days. In case, there is a failure in availing the market day, there is no chance for an indigenous person to go to the market. If he or she goes he or she is either arrested by the army or police authorities on charges of being a Shanti Bahini. Sometime Muslim settlers simply murder inidgenous people in cold blood and their bodies are never found.

On that day Muslim settlers and VDP personnel laid an ambush and captured 2 Chakma Buddhists. Muslim settlers and VDP personnel took the ill-fated Chakmas to the VDP camp at Parua where they were brutally murdered. The victims are:

  1. Master Nuadhon Chakma (16), son of Mr. Krishna Hori Chakma of Sadara Chara, Barkal.
  2. Master Debabrata Chakma (16), son of Mr. Lakshmi Mohan Chakma of Jarul Chari, Barkal.
