On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Rita Chakma (13) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Buddhist village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. Bangladesh army stripped all the women and the girls who were in their houses, and gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.

Bangladesh army rape indigenous Buddhist women in Panchari

On 29 December 1986, 25 Bangladesh army personnel of 19 EBR from the army camp at Nalkaba launched a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist village Kuradia Chara in Panchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation, Bangladesh army raped following indigenous women.

  1. Mrs. Hnee Hla U Marma (32 yrs), wife of Mr. Thui Aung Marma of Kuradia Chara, Panchari. She was raped by 4 army personnel. The victim is now a refugee in Tripura State of India.
  2. Mrs. Apphah Mah Marma (40 yrs), wife of Mr. Chenah Prue Marma, address as above. She was raped by 3 army personnel. She is now a refugee in Tripura State of India.
  3. Mrs. Ananda Sona Chakma (35 yrs), wife of Mr. Sudhapriya Chakma of Baura Para, Panchari. Her husband is a Teacher of Choto Panchari Primary School at Baura Para. She was raped infront of her husband by 4 army personnel. The incident occured at 13:30 hrs. The victim with her husband and children crossed the international border on 9 January 1987 and took refuge in India as refugees. They are sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp, South Tripura, India.
  4. Mrs. Kusumika Chakma (30 yrs), wife of Mr. Suprakash Chakma of Baura Para, Panchari. Her husband is a government employee serving as a Village Social Worker(VSW) and posted at Ramgarh of Khagrachari District. She was barbarously raped by 3 Bangladesh army personnel. The victim and her family have taken refuge as above.
  5. Mrs. Ananda Mukhi Chakma (38 yrs), wife of late Mohan Bashi Chakma of Nalindra Para, Panchari. She was barbarously raped by the Bangladesh army personnel. The victim is now a refugee as above.
  6. Mrs. Kalindi Chakma (30 yrs), wife of late Anuruddha Chakma of Jugol Chari Forest Plantation, Panchari. She was coming to the village Baura Para to visit her relations. On the way she was was caught by 6 Bangladesh army personnel who barbarously gang raped her. Bangladesh army personnel left her totally naked and in senseless condition and took away her clothes. The victim crossed the international border on 9 Jan. 1987 and took refuge in India and is presently sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp.
