Shantibala Chakma of Mallya Massace
On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed at least 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Shantibala Chakma, the wife of Mr. Saral Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the ferry. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army torture an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Dighinala

17 December 1986, a group of 26 Bangladesh army personnel from Dighinala Cantonment rounded up an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Dighinala, Khagrachari district.

The victim is Mr. Ananda Sur Chakma (24 yrs), son of Mr. Indra Kumar Chakma of Shonkhola Adam in Dighinala. He was rounded up from his house at 08:00 hrs. by the army personnel. The Lieutenant interrogated and tortured him for an hour. The Lieutenant severely beat him with a wooden block. Bangladesh army threw him into a ditch where he was made to lay flat and heaps of branches, wood and straw were piled over his body and then the soldiers jumped over these.

During the interrogation, the Lieutenant asked demeaning and hateful questions. He asked-

Why do you pray to Buddha? Why do you offer food to your Buddha? Can he eat? You dirty idolators etc. You know? Who we are? We are not only army, we are also Jallad Bahini (Butchers). We are more than your Shanti Bahini (Peace Force)
.

His right hand was twisted by the Bangladesh army. The victim is now a refugee in India at Takumbari Refugee Camp, Tripura.
