On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army hack an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Khagrachari

On 16 Nov. 1986, 60 Bangladesh army personnel of 19 EBR from the army camp at Nalkaba and Bhaibon Chara launched a military operation against indigenous people of Naksatoli in Bhaibon Chara, Khagrachari. During the operation, Bangladesh army hacked an indigenous Chakma Buddhist with a machete. The victim is:

  1. Mr. Chiro Jeevan Chakma (20), son of Mr. Gopal Chakma of Naksatoli, Bhaibon Chara. He was returning home from his farm land, on the way he was caught by 2 Bangladesh army personnel. One of them snatched the machete from him and hacked him on his left hand. The victim was seriously injured, instantly fainted and fell on the ground. He was then taken to Khagrachari Hospital for treatment. The incident occured at 11:00 hours, Bangladesh Standard Time. The victim is now a refugee in Tripura State of India and presently sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp.
