On 5 April 2017, Bangladesh army arrested Romel Chakma (19) from Naniarchar Bazar in Rangamati district. Bangladesh army took him to Naniarchar zone headquarters. Lt. Col. Bahalul Alam and Major Tanvir inhumanly tortured him. On 19 April 2017 at 2:00 pm Romel Chakma died during treatment under police custody in Chittagong Medical College hospital. When Romel Chakma's parents and relatives were taking his dead body by boat from Burighat bazar to Hatimara village on 20 April, Bangladesh army snatched the dead body from Ronnel Chakma's relatives at gun point and burned the dead body to ashes in a secret place to destroy evidence.

Bangladesh army murder an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Mahalchari

On 5 Nov. 1986, Bangladesh army of 32 EBR from Mohalchari Army Camp led by Capt. Manzoor A. Helal launched a military operation against indigenous Buddhist village Chongra Chari Joutha Khamar in Mohalchari, Khagrachari district.

During the operation, Bangladesh army arrested many indigenous Chakma Buddhists and took them to the army camp where they were interrogated and tortured. Bangladesh army beat to death one of the Chakma Buddhists while in their custody. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Uzzal Moni Chakma (27), son of Mr, Pyari Mohan Chakma of Chongra Chari Joutha Khamar, Mohalchari. Bangladesh army arrested him from his house and took him to Mohalchari Army Camp. Bangladesh army subjected him to inhuman physical torture due to which hi died on 11 Nov. 1986 in army custody.
  2. Mr. Joy Mohan Chakma (32), of Chongra Chari Joutha Khamar, Mohalchari. Bangladesh army serverely tortured and injured him.
  3. Mr. Fora Kazee Chakma (35), address as above. He was serverely tortured as above.
