On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh Rifles torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 8 July 1985, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) from Marishya Camp carried out a retaliatory attack against the indigenous Buddhist people at Marishya BDR Camp check post in reprisal to the armed clash between the Shanti Bahini and the BDR on 7 July 1985. The victims are:

  1. Amulya Chakma (18), son of Pratul Prasad Chakma of Baradam, Baghaichari. He was mercilessly beaten and tortured with sticks.
  2. Jyoti Ranjan Chakma (26), of Baradam, Baghaichari. He was also mercilessly beaten and tortured with sticks.
  3. Shantimoy Chakma (19), son of Anil Kumar Chakma of Baradam, Baghaichari. He was beaten and tortured.
  4. Anil Kumar Chakma (50), son of late Biraj Chandra Chakma of Baradam, Baghaichari. He was severely beaten and subjected to inhuman torture.
