On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 24 April 1985, Bangladesh Army of 7th Bengal Regiment from Baghaihat Camp led by Lt. Hossain carried out a military operation at Kattali and Danga Chara in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. During the operation Bangladesh army beat, detained and tortured indigenous Chakma Buddhists. The victims are:

  1. Jagadish Dewan (22), son of Nabin Chandra Dewan of Kattali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army severely beat him with wooden sticks on suspicion of being a Shanti Bahini.
  2. Muhurta Ranjan Chakma (35), son of Ramesh Chandra Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army beat him and falsely accused him of giving shelter to Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army poured water through his nose and mouth till he became senseless.
  3. Sabo Chakma (18), son of Satya Ranjan Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army arrested him on suspicion of being a Shanti Bahini, took him to Baghaihat Army Camp. There he was beaten with sticks and subjected to electric shocks.
  4. Fujukka Chakma (16), son of Satya Ranjan Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. He was suspected of collecting informations for the Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army took him to Baghaihat Army Camp where he was tied, tortured and had water poured through his nose and mouth.
  5. Daibo Dhan Chakma (14), son of Satya Ranjan Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. He was taken to Baghaihat Army Camp on a false pretext of passing information to Shanti Bahini. He was tied and hung up side and beaten.
  6. Amrita Kumar Chakma (19), son of Bhoirab Chandra Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. He was falsely accused of supplying rations to the Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army took him to Baghaihat Army Camp where he was severely beaten, tied and thrown into a dark pit and kept in confinement.
  7. Moharaj Chakma (21), son of Badhi Chakma of Danga Chara, Baghaichari. He was taken to Baghaihat Army Camp on suspicion of being a Shanti Bahini. He was inhumanly beaten with wooden sticks and subjected to tortures and electric shocks.
