On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bangladesh Rifles kill and rape indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Matiranga

On 14 January 1985 at 2 a.m, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) from Dewan Para BDR camp raided Dewan Para in Matiranga, Khagrachari district. During the raid Bangladesh army terrorized indigenous Chakma Buddhists. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Sombunath Chakma (45). Bangladesh Rifles asked him to open the door and entered his house. BDR ransacked and robbed his house.
  2. Miss Jhurongini Chakma (17), daughter of Mr. Shombunath Chakma. 6 BDR personnel gang raped her until she was bleeding profusely and lost her consciousness.
  3. Mr. Amar Singh Chakma (30), a teacher of Tabalchari High School in Tabalchari. He heard the crying of Miss Jhurongini Chakma for help, and came to her house. But he was stopped at the door by a BDR man aiming a gun at him. He tried to run away but he was shot dead.
  4. Miss Sunila Chakma (15), a neighbour of Miss Jhurongini Chakma. She also heard the crying of Miss Jhurongini Chakma and rushed to the latter's house. But the BDR men caught her and gang raped her.
