Fiat 124 Spider

to the web site of my 1978 Fiat 124 Spider.
This
Italian sportscar designed by Pinin Farina, and is an original unrestored
1978 Fiat 124 Spider (convertible), and is completely rust free with
no repairs or replacement of any body panels, or under carriage since
this car is from southern U.S.A and is painted a flawless Jet Black
on the exterior with a Light Tan interior. The convertible top is black
and is in excellent condition and was replaced 2 summers ago in 1997,
the rear window is clear and free from any scratches or fogging. In
other words the body is mint.
The
engine is the 1.8 (or 1800) designed by Ferrari engineers for Fiat and
is in excellent condition with only 73,000 on the odometer. This engine
is tight and requires no repairs, it doesn't burn or leak any fluids
what so ever. The engine is also completely stock and original with
a single 2-bl Weber carb and a factory 1974 Ansa exhaust system.
The
transmission is a 5-speed and again is in excellent running order, with
smooth positive shifts and no clutch slippage.
The
braking system on this car consists of 4-wheel disc with abs on the
rear, and is in excellent condition requiring nothing at this time.
From the descriptions of the mechanical components this car is again
in mint condition.
The
interior is in great, clean original condition with no tears in the
seats and like all Fiat Spiders has a rear seat also, with belts and
can seat 2 children if needed. The dash is black with wood inlays and
also is original with no cracks or fading. The centre console also is
in great condition with wood inlay. There is a AM FM cassette stereo
with 2 speakers up-front. All controls and switches work and there is
nothing missing or broken in this interior. Some of the options that
the interior also features are intermittent wipers, day-time running
lights and manual cruise control all of
which
are factory original.
It
was brought into Canada in 1990 and has 2 previous owners since 1978,
this Fiat has always been well cared for and garaged since new and when
viewed in person the results show this fact, and from what I've seen
this Fiat Spider could easily be the best original example in Ontario.
Below are a few photos showing the car, just remember that these photos
were scanned to be put on this web page and that some image quality
maybe lost, although they do look pretty good, the car again looks better
in person. Thank you.
This
photo is from the summer of 1998.
All
body panels are straight and dent free, all chrome is in excellent condition,
and all trim and accessories are intact and in excellent shape also
the
alloy rims are factory Cromoda 14" and since this photo have been
professionally restored to show proper black inserts see below photo
for comparison.
Only
difference from first photo is that roof is up and rims have been restored.
Tires are Michelins all around and are only 2 years old.
Close-up
of Cromoda rim. These rims are from a 1980 Spider,
but sure look better than the original steel rims with hub caps.
Note
how straight the rear quarter panel and trunk lid are.
Again
the same can be said for this side, also see how back window is clear.
This
photo shows chrome bump strip down side of body,
this was a factory fitting for U.S.A exported cars only.
Time
to look at the interior since this is the view you'll be looking
at most often.
The seats are light tan, the dash is wood inlay as is the centre console.
The steering wheel is also wood and factory original.
Not
bad shape for a convertible 22 years old.
As
I mentioned earlier this car comes with a back seat, and since this
photo, it has had seat belts professionally installed in the rear
to accommodate 2 children very comfortably.
Time
to get under the hood even though you will really only be opening
the hood to fill up the windscreen washer bottle to remove the bugs
from the front windshield from all the summer cruising that you'll be
enjoying. The engine is a 1800 twin over-head cam with dual point ignition
and single 2-bl Weber carb. This engine is tight and since this photo
was taken, I only had to re-place the radiator, not because it was bad,
but just because it needed the top tank repainted.
This
is a photo from the other side and shows all the proper accessories
and since this photo the heat shield over the exhaust manifold has been
replaced with a nice new shiny original one with all original sensors
all installed
and working. This engine has 73,000mi on it and besides the timing belt,
and alternator being replaced has required only regular oil changes
(every 3 months) doesn't need any other form of repair. It doesn't burn
or leak any kind of fluids and runs like the day it was made, seriously!
