DC Strategy Guide

Strategy shmategy, anyway you put it, it is always good to have a strategy. I shall now present you with a basic strategy guide to Dragon Court. Although it is good to remember you may want to change some things, or develop different strategies of your own after playing around for a bit. Read the whole paragraph before you begin with the instructions in it. Now for the actual strategy part.

Beginning a Game

To start simply put in the name you want along with a password, if the name is already taken just choose another name, or add a number to the end or change a few letters. Next a blue screen will come up that shall allow you to choose your stats and your class. There is starting minimum of 4 to each stat, and you always start out with 20 build points and 25gold. I recommend starting off as a trader or warrior, since getting a trader skill adds one to your defense and a warrior skill does almost the same thing but adds one to your attack. In some case you may want to choose to be nothing at all, but I recommend never starting as a noble nor mage. If you choose to be trader I recommend raising your guts and wits to 10 and your charm to 6, since guts and wits are much more important, for right now at least. If you choose a warrior skill then begin with 10 guts 8 wits and 5 charm. If you don't take a skill in the beginning I would have to say raise your guts to 12 wits to 12 and your charm to 8.

First Time in Salamander Township

Before you attempt to begin your questing I recommend you enter the town and go and buy some armor and a weapon. You'll be able to afford a knife, sandals to balance out the skill loss from the knife, and some clothes right now(if you didn't put points into cash), which shall suffice. Now your ready to quest. Begin by only attacking rats/squirrels/rabbits/etc... and some pixies/brownies/etc... Always help out the guys where it is an option, but it isn't a good idea to attack, sometimes they are mages that can mesmerize you and take most of your stuff.Help them first, then when the red screen pops up it will tell you if they are cobblers/merchants or mages/wizards, attack the cobblers and merchant types if you don't help them succesfully. It is good to try and trade with centaurs because you can get much better equipment that way, it's good to sell the quartz you get from them. Stay away from the vagabonds at first, they will attack when you try to trade with them half the time, but they will also trade normally, or sometimes they take your stuff and then run, but it is good to attack the weaker ones. Also stay away from the mercenary/knights, they will be tough to kill for quite a while. After gaining some money and some levels you will have enough to get some more armor, or have some better weapons through trading and so forth. You should now buy head gear and better foot gear and body armor. I recommend buying the spike helm, scale suit, and boots, and possibly a spike shield thing if you are using a right handed weapon, instead of a two handed one. You should then go and sell your armor at the armor shop and your weapons in the weapons shop, you get paid back more for each one that way. When you sell weapons and armor it's always a good idea to identify it if possible, which can be done in the weapons shop in the town for 40 marks. When you identify things they will sell for much more, normally more than 40(by a good bit too). You should also stock up on healing salves for when you prepare to go into the forest, which is your next thing to do. You should be able to do this all in the first day of playing, but don't worry if you don't. When day one is done I recommend sleeping on the floor, since you hardly ever wake up late that way, but you sometimes take damage, but you can heal that easily.

The Depths of the Forest

While in the forest you will fight many new monster and find some new places. You will find a new shop with some weapons that look very expensive, don't worry about it, you get more money from each monster in the forest. There are now new things to help, which you should always do, these are the unicorns. You can get some pretty good items from helping the unicorns, or killing them when your are a bit more powerful. They can give a good right handed weapon called a unicorn horn. The creatures that will be good to attack at first are mainly the pigs/boars which give you a decent left handed weapon called a war tusk. You also start out attacking the weaker orcs, they will give battle axes sometimes which are decent for someone just making it to the forest. You may also get mithril mail, which is great armor for someone just entering the forest once again. You might also want to try attacking the snots, they may look big and bad but they're not. Snots are very slow and hardly ever hit you, try attacking one if you have decent skill(I don't know, maybe about 20-30) and use your backstab or berserk at first, they can also get you a good weapon called a dwarf axe. You will want to answer some of the gryphons' riddles, they give you mercury sandals which are good to sell in the weapons shop, because they have a high skill. Never sell things in the armory hear, wait until you get back to the town shop. Always try and trade with elves, you can get elf bows which are great two-handed weapons, or you may get some gems that sell for a lot. Sell all your gems you get from anything, they are of no use to you, unless you're a mage, and at this point they probably aren't a use to you anyway. When in the forest you will also find guild tower, where you can join for a hefty some of 5,000 marks, yeah it's a lot for now, but you'll get there. In the guild tower you can get more fighter/trader/mages skills, or your first in some cases. Soon after, when you reach level 8 you'll be able to enter the mountains, but we'll get to that later!

The Castle and Royal Courtyard

Ok, when you're level 5 you'll be able to enter the castle(for free if you chose to be a noble for some reason) you can bribe the guard with 400 or so marks at the most to get into the first section, where you can send and recieve mail and where you may join a clan (or create one later). You see two other areas here that are for much later in the game. You may also enter the queens court where you may petition for a higher rank, dice, mingle, boast, or game. You must first get past the guard, which you will also bribe but takes more money. When you get to knights you will not have to mess with the guards anymore. To become a knight from a peasant it should be about 5,000 marks, and this price(as all the others) can be lowered by a lot of mingling. Just mingle a lot then you petition about 500 marks, and you may or not become at knight at that point, but don't worry the money you give the queen is cumulative. So if you don't make it just mingle some more and petition another 500 marks or so.

The Goblin Warrens

Ok, so you think you're tough now, right? Well it's time to enter the goblin mounds (you must be level 8 to enter, I recommend a higher level, 9 or 10). You can access the mounds through the fields, there will something new to click on there. When you enter you fight the gate guards, which aren't that bad and pretty easy to kill. You will get a crossbow from them sometimes, which is good to sell. To quest in the mounds you must have torches, so you can see of course. When you first enter go into the shop/inn there and buy a map to the warrens (the treasury is too hard right now). You should start out by attacking the weaker of the goblin gangs, and helping out the stronger ones there. These gangs give you miners caps, which is an incredibly good head wear item. You'll also get right handed weapons called goblin picks from them, which are pretty good. You'll find some things to trade with there, but be warned they may swindle you, so be sure to have some theif insurance(Which you may buy in the shop there). They aren't that tough to kill, but you may have a little trouble at first. You can get war boots there, which can be the best foot wear in the game, depending on how lucky you are. Always run from the warlock things, they are not worth attacking because they can mesmerize you and they don't give you anything special. There are also other things called maniacs/fanatics/etc... that you may want to stay away from since they berserk (but remember things can only berserk after the first hit) so you may want to attack it and if you don't kill it on the first hit, run away. There is one more thing you will find here called a wyrm/worm/etc..., when battling these things you should take off your miners helm (or anything with glow on it) since they swallow equipment and cause it to rust(only stuff with glow). They are not to tough, and relatively easy to kill. You will get a lot of gold nuggets in the place from pretty much all of the stuff there, you can sell these for pretty good money. I now recommend you head off to the mountains.

The Mountains

So you're now through the warrens, right? Time to go to the mountains, I recommend that you are level 12 or so, the stuff up here is kind of hard. In the mountains you will find a two new shops, one where you can buy gems and treasures(pretty useless) and one where you can buy scrolls and other things, among them are gold apples and blinding dust. To begin the questing in the mountains you need to have rope(like torches in the mounds). At first you will want to attack the basiliks, which will sometimes blind you, but are pretty easy to kill. You will also want to attack the giant goats, but watch out they will eat your rope when you attack them or they attack you. The goats will give you a really good left handed weapon called a rams horn. These also give you horns which are treasures which sell for decent money. Answer the questions of the sphynxes, but be warned they may kill you if you don't answer right (like most of the other things), but they can berserk you too. Giants, which you will also find, are kind of like snots, they look big and bad(which they can be) but they are really slow and hardly ever hit you. I must say that they will probably kill you if they get in a good hit(or maybe even a weak one). You will get a great weapon from them called a giants maul, which is two handed. I must say you should stay away from the wyverns, they'll panic you and mesmerize you and which causes you to walk off the side of a cliff(certain monsters do this when they mesmerize you). Another lil' place you will find are the abandoned mines, you should here this, STAY AWAY! Inside the mines are the toughest monsters in the game, the dragons themselves. You might want to go in to check one out then refresh before it you click on the red screen that says you have died (this will cause it to reset to the last point that you saved.

The Treasury

Now go ahead back to the mounds. You don't really have to do this, you can go the docks and dungeon, but you might want to get a little stronger here first. Now, if you don't have a map to the treasury already, enter the shop and buy one. Here you will fight two new things, in addition to all the monsters from the warrens with the exception of the fanatics. The first one will be a guard, this guy is kind of tough, he can backstab or swindle you, but rarely does. He can also berserk once. So go ahead and give this guy a shot. From him you will recieve another good weapons called a goblin pike, these can be a little better than the goblin picks earlier. The other new creature you will find are some goblins hiding behind a fence, called halbediers sometimes. These things are pretty strong and can berserk for a pretty good amount of damage. When you kill these, you will eventually receive a map to the throne room which is next.

Throne Room

So you're in the throne room now, huh? In here you will find all the monsters from the warrens(except the fanatic) plus two new ones. The lesser of the two new creatures is the goblin paladin/knight/etc... which can mesmerize(you shouldn't have to worry about this, it rarely does). These things are still kind of tough, although they seem not to have many great abilities. They will give you flaming swords which are great to sell, although they're not really great weapons. The greater of the two in the throne room is the infamous goblin queen. She likes to mesmerize you, and does a pretty good job of it. You can get terror rods, which also sell for lots of money, from the queens. It is sometimes good to seduce them since they mesmerize less that way. You will also get a map to the vortex from the queens sometimes(also gotten from the sphynxes in the mountains).

The Dreary Dungeons

Now you're off to the castle, where you should go to the docks and dungeons. I think you should be at least level 15 or 16 now. I shall talk about the dungeons now. In the dungeons you will recognize all of the things here, well sort of. They are thing from earlier on but much more powerful. The snots are pretty much the same, easy to kill, and just a tad bit stronger, not too much. They now give great pikes, which are decent two handed weapons. The trolls are here too, a tad bit stronger, but they seem much tougher. You will also find the goblin gangs here, but watch out they also use blast powder now, which does 25 for each use, and I think they have up to 3 uses in battle (they normally only use one or two). They now give you the best head gear in the game, they still give miner caps, but the miners caps are much better now. You will also find giant rodents (rats/voles/etc....) that now give great right handed weapons called rat tail wips, and they have sick and always sell for good money. You will also find the goblin berserkers/lunatics/etc... here but they are too much tougher. The one last thing you will fight here are mages from the fields, and they are much stronger. They are always mages now, no more cobblers or merchants, and they will mesmerize you pretty well. You will be able to a rutter to hie brasil from them, which you will use later in the docks.

Out to Sea

Now for the normal docks. You will encounter privateers, which are just greedy pirates. They will bactstab you and they will use blast powder on you (up to 4 I think). They are good to trade with, but rip you off sometimes. You will get great bows from them, which are pretty much like giant mauls but they can have a higher defense, but a lower defense. You will also find dinosaurs/sea serpents/etc... that are extremely easy. They look like the worms from the goblin mounds but they don't suck your equipment. They will normally give you three serpent scales, which can be great left handed weapons, but are normally not to great and sold. The last thing you shall find here is something called an Aloria, which can mesmerize you(and does it well for having such low wits). You can get great foot gear from them called sea slippers, which come with high skill and they always sell for a lot of money in the weapons shop (high skill is valued there). You can also get a serpents scale from them.

Hie Brasil

Now you should be ready, at least close to it, for hie brasil. To get to hie brasil you need an item called a rutter to hie brasil, found on giants and on the mages in the dungeons. Keep in mind you will still fight monster from the regular docks here, and you are not taken to a new map. You will fight 4 new monsters. The weakest is a gladiator, which is a moderate fighter that you can get great right handed weapons called gladius from. Next is a medusa, which will try to mesmerize, and it's the best at it so far (if you don't count the dragon). From the medusa you will be able to receive the best body armor you can get so far, there is only one type better, and this 2nd best armor is called a snake scale suit. Next is the golem, which is a big lunker and is really slow. He will hit you rarely, but he takes a couple turns to kill. He gives you many gems to sell, so he will be a key to big money. The fourth new monster you shall find is a hero called a ramses/hektor/etc... which is kind of tough. Hey does a decent amount of damage but doesn't have any special abilities. You will be able to receive the item needed to visit the last place you haven't been able to access yet, the rutter to shangala. From these heros it is also possible to receive a cookie, which is the rarest item in the game, and this is the only place to find them.

Shangala

Now for shangala. Do you feel lucky, punk, well do ya? Ask yourself this because this place is tough. Things here look big and bad, and well.....they are. There is one thing that is really weak here, just one, and it is the peasant and it looks exactly like a ninja(the only way to tell them apart is by attacking or by looking at there wits and guts, over time you will be able to distinguish which is which). The peasant is really easy to kill, and has no special abilities. The ninja is a different story, it will either swindle you, backstab you for a good amount of damage, or it will mesmerize (or at least try to) you, make sure you have some thief insurance when you come. From the ninja you will receive an asuara(from peasant and ninja actually, but the peasants has a constant defense) which can also be the best foot gear in the game, tied with war boots. The other thing here which is just moderate is the gunner/mercenary. It will use blast on you for up to a 150 damage. Next comes the panda, which is definitely a bad news bear. These things are smart, and like to mesmerize. I suggest always helping them and if you can't just run, it's best that way. Now for the shogun/yoritomo/etc..., these things are bad news, they have an Ieatsu skill which can do upwards of 200 guts, and they go first a lot when you first get to shangala. They also have a magic attack that's not too bad, but if you don't kill them they will berserk for about as much as the Ieatsu. You can get one of the best right handed weapons in the game from them though, the spirit katana, or sometimes two. The thing to really fear right now is the samurai, which also has the Ieatsu skill, but its Ieatsu is more powerful. The good news is that you will get the best body armor and right handed weapon from these things. The masamune is the best right handed weapon in the game and the koutetsu is the best body armor in the game. You will also get a bushido token which you may use to get the Ieatsu skill yourself (check the FAQ for details).

Mr. Tough Guy

Alright, so you think you spell out bad news for all the monster now, huh? It's now time to go back up to the mountains. To the abandoned mines to be more exact. You are now going to take on the dragon. There are two ways to kill a dragon, one is cheap and you'll have to figure it out yourself, while the other is the good ol' fashion way with blood, sweat, and a few berserks. You will want high skill, at least over 500. You will also want to be able to survive the magic attack which it will start with if it doesn't start by mesmerizing. That is pretty much a neccessity. You will hope to, backstab it(or Ieatsu), then attack first the second round or dodge the his berserk, while berserking him, or her if it's a female dragon. You will want at to be at or around at least 180 guts, 350 wits, and charm doesn't really matter. Well good luck, and in no time you will be able to kill a dragon without gear on just like me!
