Bernie Wayne (1919-1993) wrote the song, "There She Is, Miss America" in 1954 and introduced it to Miss America officials shortly thereafter. The song, first sung at the 1955 Miss America Pageant by newcomer Bert Parks became a national icon associated with Miss America competitions. He also composed the hit song Blue Velvet. His string of instrumental successes included Vanessa, Port-au-Prince and Veradero.
