                                    SKUDESNESS LUTHERAN CHURCH
Taken from the 75th Anniversary History Book

It all began as a dream; a dream of a house of worship to gather the people together after leaving their home in Skudesness, Norway ( a harbour town).
On October 9, 1904, the people gathered at the Lars Knudson home and expressed a sincere desire to form a congregation. Paster Satre as president and Pastor C.S. Halvorson as secretary presided at the meeting.
It was decided to call the congregation , Skudesness Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation. Pastor Halvorson was to serve the congregation.

                                                             Language
Our forefathers, being of Norwegian lineage, brought their language with them to Canada. Norwegian services were held for many years. The Landstad Hymnal, original constitution, and church records were written in Norwegian . Gradually the transition was made to english.
The last confirmation class to study in Norwegian was in 1924 . English was offered as well and some chose to study in the new language. The 1924 class consisted of Joe Aker, Inga Bruce, Nora Bruce, Emma Forre, Lillian Huseby, Magdalene Knudson, Evan Kvale, Lars Olsen and Ole Olsen.
"When we took our classes we had to walk or ride horseback". Recalls Emma Knudson. "We would go to class during Ladies Aid at times."
" Lillian Huseby would walk 5 miles to the church as there was no class at Zion that year."
"Both the English and Norwegian language were used . We ( the ones studying in Norwegian) would sit and listen to the English class after ours was finished".
"Our confirmation service was June 1, 1924 and was based on Matthew 7:13 and 14."

I was glad when He said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the Lord"
                                                                                                                                       Psalm 122:1
