INTRODUCTION

This report will examine the complex relationship between art and the internet. Part of the focus of this article will include the effect that the internet has had on artists and the global artistic community. In turn we will examine the effects artists and their work has had on the internet. We will discuss the New Media of digital art and consider the internet from the digital artists point of view. We will also explore the social and cultural ramifications of these intertwined and convoluted relationships.

In addition to discussing the social effects of art and the internet we will investigate the various ways in which artists of all types use the internet to express their creativity, and display their art as well as their diverse array of talents. We will examine the evolution of the digital artist and discuss the artistic and technical skills necessary to the modern artist as they work on the cutting edge of this new frontier. We will also consider the effects that the internet has had on the business of art and the functions and dealings that are an integral part of the art industry.

The purpose of conducting this study is to create a finished product that will be useful in understanding the relationships mentioned here, and to offer insight into the many uses of this new media called the internet. In gaining a better understanding of these topics it is hoped that we will be able to enhance our use of new technologies through originality, resourcefulness and vision.
