"Bush: Concert Review from SUNY Oswego"

This was my first Bush concert. I had heard from some friends of mine that they were really good live. I have tons of imports and I've seen many a live video, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats being there live!

My friend and I arrived at SUNY Oswego, Laker Hall Gym around 3:30pm in the afternoon. We stood in line for 3 and a half hours, but it was worth it because the line grew as the day went on and we were basically at the front. While standing in line Moby came out onto the roof with his video camera and was filming us in line. A girl got caught trying to steal a crew pass, that was exciting. Then there were windows into an upstairs conference room and while I was talking to my friend I happened to look up and there, standing at the window looking down at us was Gavin! Then some fanatic girl in the front screams,"It's Gavin!" and the whole mass at the front who could see him started waving and he waved to us. That was my first glimpse of him and it was incredible and yet surreal at the same time.

They opened the doors at 7pm. We walked in, they patted us down. When my friend and I got into the gym we got into the huge mass of people at the front of the stage. We waited for the gym to fill up and Moby started at 8pm. His set was good, I couldn't see much of him because I'm short in stature as it is and I had this hulk of a girl in front of me and this really tall guy next to me with his wife in front of him. During the second song in Moby's set, both my friend and I got kicked in the eye by a crowdsurfer. Moby's songs, what I heard was good, I didn't care much for his voice, but the beat and stuff were good. It didn't make me want to rush right out of there and buy the cd, but it was alright. He stopped at 9pm and some of the guards were a bit concerned because Bush wasn't scheduled to go on until 10pm. Well, the crowd shifted and I got my way up to second row from the barricade!

Bush came on and it was the most awesome experience! The opened the night off with Machinehead, Personal Holloway, and English Fire. Gavin ran over to the sides and sang to them. Then during one song he gyrated his hips with his guitar across the amp, that was certainly an interesting sight. Gavin, at one point, launched himself into the front crowd, which I was in. He was to the left of the middle and they began passing him over to us in the middle. I saw his legs and shoes up in the air as they passed him over and all of a sudden the guards pulled him back over the barricade before he could get to me or anyone else in the middle. We were all pissed of course, but we went back to enjoying his presence on-stage.

Two songs that surprised me was their cover of the R.E.M song, I can't think of the name but it goes.."This one goes out to the one I love.." and also the Deconstructed version of "Mouth". I always liked the beginning of the deconstructed version better and with the lighting it was a great song! All in all the night proved good. Except for the many girls that had to be carried over the barricade because of dehydration and lack of air. I must admit that it was really stuffy in the gym and being cramped all together in that mass in front of the stage wasn't easy to handle. I managed alright, but then again even if I was dehydrated I wasn't feeling the effects because I knew I wouldn't leave my spot for anything seeing as how this was my first time ever seeing them live. I wasn't missing this close-up view for the world! The guys were gorgeous, Gavin has his hair back to the old way with the curly locks and gold highlights. The set was all of their best songs!

And, at the end, Gavin takes his necklace from the microphone were he had put it early on in the show and as he turns to walk off he kisses his fingers and points to this girl on the front row and smiles. It was a definite point in her direction because he made the action quite deliberate so she would know he was pointing to her. I didn't see who she was, but the whole mass in front turned to look as he did it, it was funny. Then, as a final bonus to the night, as Gavin walked off, on ran Gwen! She put her arms around his neck and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and the pair continued back-stage!

Here's the set list the first 3 I remembered in order and the last song they did was Little Things. The rest in-between are random, but pretty close to where I remember them. Thanks and Take Care! :)
