Hello everyone! Thank you for checking out my page. Well, here's a little about me...my name is Maribel and I'm a third year student at the University of California Riverside, majoring in Business Administration. I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting Morrissey twice, and all I can say is that he is a gentleman, and he's just as beautiful as we all picture him.. I've been a Morrissey fan since high school, but my intensity for the music really grew when I was in college. The story of how I became a fan is interesting, only because it took a heartbreak to open my eyes..."and I will never sleep again..." I was a senior in high school, and I was smitten with a young man whom I had only been going out with for a while. Yes, I was blind, and now "I do see -- evil people prosper over the likes of you and me..." I had just found out that "he" decided to see someone else without telling me (found out through "friends") and was left completely distraught. I began to just stay in my room and listen to music, usually U2 and The Cure, to try to make myself feel better (or worse...whatever). I would listen to a radio station called 98.3 located in Mexicali, Mexico, and since I was in a humdrum border town I was able to pick it up. All they play is alternative and new wave, to my delight, so I would always pop in a tape and record off the station. One day, it was simply unbearable; I just locked myself in my room for hours and just stared at the mirror, trying to figure out what was so wrong with me that I drove him away... I was still recording when I suddenly heard a breathtaking voice...the simple guitar in the background with this wonderous, soothing voice...it was "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want"...I didn't know that then, but soon, I was under his spell. OTHER INTERESTS... Along with being a Morrissey and Smiths fan, I'm also into Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Beastie Boys, U2, Radiohead, Travis, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, Mazzy Star and many more. I actually got the chance to see DM in concert back in December of '98, in San Diego, and I also saw the Cure play at Irvine Meadows on May 28. Along with Depeche and The Cure, I also had the pleasure of seeing Radiohead, Travis, Coldplay, Doves, Sigur Ros and Bob Dylan live (among others!) Besides music, I also enjoy watching old 80's movies, like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Say Anything...ahh, the good ole days! Besides 80's movies, some of my favorites are Swingers and Rebel Without A Cause...(James Dean is the best). I am also a huge Lakers fan (since '88) and I hope they take it all the way!
