Texas Style Cornbread


1 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1 t salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup sweet milk
1 egg
1 T baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 cup melted shortening (leave shortening out if preparing stuffing)


1. Grease an 8x8 inch pan and preheat in oven.

2. Combine dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

3. Add the buttermilk, milk, egg and shortening.

4. Stir mixtures thoroughly and pour into the
hot pan.

5. Bake at 450F until done (approx. 25 minutes)

6. The bread will be moist and brown.
