It sounds insane at first, but if you're good enough, all of the game's opponents can be beaten within 5 to 15 seconds (depending on who you fight), without a single exception. You will find detailed walkthroughs on the internet explaining how to do it, with a distinct strategy for each opponent... but here's some general advice first.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! The easiest way to beat your opponents is to simply avoir their blows, and then retaliate. Of course, you won't get the best times this way, but it's the safest way. You need to learn to beat your opponents that way first, before you even try and make good times.

Counter Punching

Mastering this technique is not mandatory to win the game, but it is if you want to make good times. You have to hit the opponent right before he's going to punch. When you see the blow coming, immediately punch him before he gets the time to hit. Depending on your opponent's position, the height and the direction of your punch are important, because if they aren't accurate you won't manage to hit him. It's a dangerous technique because if you're just a little too late, you'll get hit. And to make matters worse, when you see the blow coming, you have to wait a few tenths of a second before you hit: if you give a proper counter punch, your opponent will be stunned. If you threw your punch too early, you'll hit him but he won't be stunned - that's not a counter punch.

Example: let's practice counter punches on Dragon Chan.

Dragon Chan enters

He's about to hit you

You give him a high right punch before he gets to hit you (but after waiting a few tenths of a second)

If you did it correctly, there he is: stunned and at your mercy!

You're going to need practice in order to give counter punches to each opponent, as their timings are all different.

Useful things to know

- Don't press any button before the match really begins (unless you're doing it knowingly). If, for example, you're already raising your fists in the hope you'll throw a high punch as soon as the bell rings, your opponent will have immediately raised his fists to block.
- When your opponent is on the floor, you can slowly regain your energy if you repeatedly press A, B, X and Y. The faster you press those buttons, the faster you'll regain energy.
- Your left fist is slightly faster, and your right fist is slightly stronger.

Daze your opponent

This isn't the same thing as being stunned. If you hit your opponent like crazy without any interruption, he'll end up being dazed. You have to be quick to be able to give all your punches in the smallest possible amount of time, without letting the opponent block or dodge a single one. When you succesfully do this (which is not an easy thing, even on the weak opponents), your opponent will be dazed and do something like turn around in a circle, move left and right with a stoned look, go back to his corner, pull a weird face and move aside, etc. The useful thing to know is that when your opponent is dazed, if you give him a KO-Punch (the ones you get when your "S" bar is full) at the right time, he will immediately fall to the floor, whatever his energy level is. When your opponent is dazed, you'll notice the clock stops. You have to give him the KO-Punch at the precise time the clock starts again. Which means you can't throw the punch when the clock starts again - you have to get it ready so it lands when the clock starts again. This needs, of course, a lot of practice.

Example : let's try this on Gabby Jay.

Gabby Jay enters

You give him 5 high left punches

Immediately followed by 2 high right punches

Your "S" bar is full, you can now give KO-Punches. Give him a high one right now!

You made it, he's dazed! He staggers to the right.

Throw a high KO-Punch at the precise moment Gabby Jay starts coming back to the left :
the punch will land when he's back in front of you

There you are! He's on the floor!

Gabby Jay being particularly weak, this will be enough to make him KO. If your timing was incorrect, he would have received the KO-Punch but wouldn't have fallen down.
