" Education is an important element in the struggle for human rights.
It is the means to help our children and thereby increase self-respect.
Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today."

Place: Deshapanda Guttahalli, Anekal Taluk, Bangalore Rural District (40 Kms from Bangalore City)

A school exclusively meant for helping backward sections of rural society has been envisaged by Brahmi Trust in a backward village Deshapanda Guttahalli in Anekal Taluk, 40 kms from Bangalore City. The land for housing the school is being donated by a philanthropist from nearby village. The infrastructure include four spacious class rooms, a prayer hall and a teacher's residence. The school has started functioning from June 2001 with two classes: 18 students in class I and 17 students in pre-school.

Location: A sketch showing the location with the names of the villages which will be benefited by the project is shown below:

Teaching Methodology: The need of “Joyful Learning” in the early formative years of child development requires no explanation. Keeping in view the requirements of the modern education system and the level of proficiency that is expected when the child reaches higher classes, the following schemes are envisaged. It is recognised that apart from low learning levels of rural children, lack of proficiency in English is another major factor for low progress among those in higher classes (high school level). Therefore, a phased effort towards developing this skill is planned in the following schemes.

A scheme of “joyful learning” based on wholistic learning methodology (by combining non-formal education techniques with formal education based on NCERT guidelines). A number of learning aids, based on environment friendly and locally available objects will be effectively used for arousing curiosity in every child which will help in the process of learning. The picturesque location with its green trees surrounding the area will assist in this process. A unique adventure sports area, an all side open- pagoda type structure to promote group activities, an amphi-theater are some of the learning aids being planned. Apart from developing skills for receiving formal education, a foundation for building an integrated character in the child would be laid by familiarising the child to the wealth of Indian culture and heritage (with the aid of music, dance, Yoga, drama and stories) thereby inculcating a strong sense of national feeling and pride in the child.
