Piercing Awareness

This Page is UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Started Dec.12/99~*~Last Updated Dec.20/99

As of September 5th 1999, I joined the precent of society who have aquired (other than ear) piercings. Now, just a week past my 3rd month of having my eyebrow pierced, I have become aware of the numerous people looking at me as if I were under some sort of inspection. This in fact does bother me, as most pierced individuals are probably annoyed by this aswell. I am not one who usually draws attention to myself either, which adds to my questioning of the on-looker. Is it that they have a problem with my choice, or are they just curious? Or is it just that they think since I have a piercing I'm a part of some out of control group, who has no boundaries or rules holding them back? I suppose these questions will probably remain un-answered to me.

Another question posed to those pierced is, "Does your Mother/Father/etc. approve of this?" or simply, "what do they think?" if they are still living at home like myself. In my case my parents were slightly shocked at first, but now hardly notice it, although my Mom is always afraid that it could be infected. They also try to make me think that I'm not allowed to get more piercings. Anyways a little after I was pierced my Grandma arrived visiting my family. She, being in her 80's has seen alot in her time, and hardly minded it. She plainly said how she doesn't like tounge piercings. So, my point being, why do so many people seem to have a problem with piercings when so many more do not? Yes it has to do with taste, but why propose to force an obsticle in to someone's life by either questioning or even staring at them because of their piercing? This person obviously decided to make a choice for themself. They went and got a piercing which can be removed, but may scar.

The topic of making decicisions leads us on to that area of, "when you're 50 you won't want it anymore..." Well anyone can say to that is that they'll take it out. For the time being I have decided I will be one cool Grandma (though I still have many years to come being only near 16). I may have piercings, tattoos and whatever else that may be done, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is the person behind the metal rings and barbells. This person had made a choice and that's theirs to have. It is just the same as being able to vote. You can either vote for X or for Y. If you choose X you will be stuck with that decision, if you choose Y the same applies. The next time you vote you may change your mind because of something the opposing candidate said. Decisions can be changed. That's part of the pure beauty of piercings, they can be removed.

I will later add more to this page which I will remind you is still being constructed.
